You know, living in Charleston really has effected the lens through which I see the world. Some people might say that I’m just spoiled. But lately whenever I leave the womb of the south, everything that I used to hold as a standard just doesn’t seem to have the same luster.
Growing up in Maryland, and revisiting Annapolis as an adult, I was pleasantly surprised. Thoroughly planned monuments, and civic buildings were the nodes (anchors if you will), of the organic and undulating rhythm of the city’s urban fabric. Comparing Annapolis to other modern cities just reiterates the cold hard fact that nothing can replace the effects of time. You can’t make the dust on an old bottle of wine, you just need to wait long enough for it to get there.
